Oro antral fistula

Oroantral fistula (OAF) is an abnormal communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus. It typically results from dental extractions, trauma, infections, or surgical procedures in the posterior maxilla. If left untreated, OAF can lead to chronic sinus infections and other complications.

Postoperative Care :

• Avoid forceful nose blowing and sneezing with an open mouth.
• Soft diet and avoidance of sucking or negative pressure.
• Antibiotics and nasal decongestants as prescribed.
• Proper oral hygiene and saline rinses.

Early diagnosis and appropriate management of oroantral fistula are crucial to prevent chronic sinus complications and ensure optimal healing. A multidisciplinary approach involving dentists, oral surgeons, and otolaryngologists may be required for complex cases.
